Mona Vale is more than just a garden.
Although small in size (9 acres), the property has many touristic attractions such as the garden gazebo and the heritage Victorian homestead.
Unfortunately the homestead house was damaged during the 2010 Canterbury earthquake, and then again during the February 2011 ‘aftershock’, so it was still closed at the time of my visit (February 2013).
Since then the homestead has been extensively renovated and is now open to the public.
